Here is a set for creativity, a prefabricated toy Greek Birema! Birema is a boat rowing boat of the ancient Greeks with two rows of oars. It was only possible to sail in the direction of the wind. With the sail and steering oars, which were at the stern, hired sailors were driven. The rowers took up arms if necessary. On deck, an armed detachment. The heavy metal ram on the nose was the main weapon of the bireme. The ramming blow with acceleration broke through the side of the enemy ship, and the soldiers rushed to the boarding battle. Biremes were later used by the Romans and existed for over 500 years.
The combination of materials of different nature in the ship model not only enriches the impression of the model, but also makes the assembly more difficult. When switching to a new material, you need to adapt to its properties, change methods of work. This variety makes the assembly even more interesting.
Why Greek?
Because it was the Greeks who were the first to use this type of warship, and after them the Romans began to use the bireme. In those days, the oars and their number were very important for the ship, since the sail in the shape of a rectangle allows you to move only in the direction of the wind. Before the appearance of the bireme, oars, like rowers, were located on ships in one row. If it was necessary to build a fast ship, its hull was lengthened during construction to accommodate additional rowers. But it couldn't go on forever. The Greek bireme became the first ship with oars and rowers in two tiers. The Greeks were the first to use a ram in the bow for a swift attack on the enemy.
